For too long, traditional education has expected students to sit still for hours, despite growing research showing that movement enhances learning, focus, and overall well-being. At Kalexedy Learning Center, we break away from outdated methods by incorporating movement-based learning—because a child’s body was made to move, not sit still.
The Science Behind Movement and Learning
Research confirms that physical activity boosts cognitive function, memory retention, and emotional well-being. Studies from the CDC (2021) and Harvard Medical School (Ratey, 2008) show that movement:
Increases blood flow to the brain, improving focus and comprehension.
Enhances memory and retention, helping students absorb information more effectively.
Reduces stress and anxiety, leading to a better overall learning experience.
Improves executive function, which is key for problem-solving and critical thinking.
In contrast, the traditional "sit still and listen" model often leads to lower engagement, restlessness, and even academic struggles (Donnelly et al., 2016).
How Kalexedy Integrates Movement into Learning
At Kalexedy Learning Center, we believe movement isn’t just for recess—it’s a crucial part of education. Here’s how we make learning active:
Hands-On, Kinesthetic Learning – Whether it's building models, conducting science experiments, or acting out historical events, our students learn by doing.
Frequent Movement Breaks – Short bursts of stretching, walking, or light activity help reset focus and prevent fatigue.
Outdoor Learning Experiences – Nature walks, gardening, and real-world exploration make learning engaging and memorable.
Integrated Physical Activities – From math games that involve jumping to literacy lessons that incorporate movement, we keep students active while they learn.
Beyond all of the obvious moving, we have incorporated multiple ways for kids to move while learning. We have multiple Upaloop fitness seats (or wiggle stools) that allow for fun movement of core muscles while seated. We encourage use of our beanbags and learning rugs where kids can stretch out and flex their bodies as needed. We have our sensory swings where kids can contort into many configurations while also getting vestibular stimulation, among other benefits.[1] Our space also has multiple couches within the learning space and always available for use. The highlight being, with rare exception, these flexible learning spaces are available to students all the time. We encourage them to move generally and to utilize the space that fits them best in a given moment. What we don't have is desks.

The Benefits of Movement-Based Learning
Improves Focus & Engagement – Active students stay more alert and retain information longer.
Supports Different Learning Styles – Many children learn best through physical interaction with their environment.
Boosts Mood & Reduces Anxiety – Movement naturally reduces stress and enhances emotional well-being.
Prepares Students for Lifelong Health – Encouraging movement in education fosters a love for physical activity that lasts a lifetime.
Why Parents Love Our Active Learning Approach
At Kalexedy, we understand that children aren’t meant to sit in desks all day. That’s why we design learning experiences that engage both the mind and body, ensuring that students don’t just absorb information—they truly experience it.
If you’re looking for an education that prioritizes engagement, well-being, and real-world learning, Kalexedy Learning Center is the right fit for your child.
